"Tattoo'ed" palm leaves
They scratch the drawing or text into the thinly cut palm leaf, rub in some burnt and blackened kemiri nut, and then whipe it clean. The result could be finely ornamented book layers, calenders or other useful items. Pretty cool stuff, actually.
