Hand shoe
Maybe it's not a difficult language after all. Below some evidence that tas = tas (bag).

If we were to translate the Dutch word 'handschoen' (= glove) literally, it would be 'hand shoe'. Which is probably what happened with my new favorite word, i.e. 'slop tangan'. Literally this translates into 'slipper hand', most likely derived from the Dutch 'handschoen', and thus means 'glove'. Awesome. Just as good as 'knalpot', perhaps even better.
